Aunt Jemima Cookie Jar

The Aunt Jemima cookie jar was undoubtedly one of grandkids’ favorite objects in Grandma (Theresa) Reynolds’ home.  The grandchildren remember the cookie jar being filled with oatmeal raisin cookies.  There is some dispute over where the cookie jar was located in Grandma Reynolds home.  Grandson Dana recalls it sitting by a black phone on a small shelf between the kitchen and living room but Joyce claimed it wasn’t.  We’ll need some help from Uncle Joe, Uncle Carl or Aunt Edna sorting this out.  When Grandma Reynolds passed away, the cookie jar moved to Lyle and Joyce’s and was always considered a family treasure.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

    • Josie…let’s make a batch of those cookies sometime soon! If I remember correctly, they were better the second or third day because they were more moist and the spices had time to mellow. Did I tell you that Carl remembers the cookie jar being on the east wall of the kitchen on a shelf above the sink? Marianne doesn’t remember it being on the small phone shelf between the kitchen and living room either. I guess we’ll have to reteach that piece of family lore!

  1. I remember my mom telling us all the way to Grandmas house, kids don’t go to the cookie jar as soon as you get in the door. So of course, that is the first place we would go, mom would say , ” What did I tell you ” Grandma would say, ” now Helen”. Still to this day one of my favorite cookies. My son Curt, wanted them instead of birthday cakes.
